Happy Little Things

Hello, Friends!

Happy Monday to you! Here’s hoping you had a nice, relaxing, fun, exciting, refreshing, lovely and otherwise great weekend. Our weather is officially insane, what with 8 inches of snow, followed by 70 degrees, followed by rain, followed by insane high winds and cool temps. Tomorrow we’re back to sunny and 65. All in a week! Loco. I’m not sure about you, but I’m having a hard time keeping up.

Despite the wacky weather, we had a fantastic little weekend here at Camp Freckle. The big event was Henry’s participation in his first music festival. Like, with judges. Intimidating judges! With pens! Scoring performances! He was a little hesitant when his violin teacher first suggested it, but after weeks of practice, he arrived at the big day free of nerves. To be honest, I’m not sure where he gets this from. Matty and I can get pretty worked up about stuff like this, but Henry? He gets into the zone.

He played two songs (this one and the other I can’t find on youtube), Henry on his violin and a fellow student accompanying him on piano. I sat in the front row filming him and only managed to keep myself together by watching him through the small screen on my camera. This is my new trick. Otherwise, it’s a river of proud mama tears, people. My little boy. He looked so grown up and so little all at once. Talk about a tug at the ol’ heart strings.

And then we have Miss Dotty, who is really, really into dancing. Specifically the idea of ballet. This has been going on since around the holidays… She throws on that tutu (or, sometimes, doubles up the tutus) and requests music. Yesterday morning she had Matt playing his guitar while she twirled around the living room. The leg up, foot on the wall is the newest thing. We’re rolling with it.

After the music festival, we toodled on over to Whole Foods for a little lunch and grocery shopping. But really, we were going because I promised Henry that he could pick out any treat he wanted. REALLY?! he squealed. Really, kid. Anything you want. He decided on this strawberry creme cake. I’m pretty sure it was the highlight of the weekend for both kiddos. Which makes me think: jeez! We should buy cakes more often.

Dotty reported that she did not love the peanuts. And then we told her they were almonds. And then she reported that she did not like the almonds. I think we’ll try the caramel cake next time. Or something chocolate and deadly.

And last but certainly not least… I wanted to let you all know that I signed on to become a regular contributor over at dot coms for moms and my first two posts went up last week! Really excited about this new opportunity and thrilled to be in such great company.

I’m already working on some cute posts for March, and I’ll be sure to let you guys know what and when. I’ve also got that handy little button over there on the right, so you can head on over with one easy click. ;)

I’ll be back later today to share something really special. Happy Monday, friends!
