week long series: My Favorite Collections

by Jenny on February 16, 2012

The nice thing about vintage brooches: you can pretty much find them anywhere. They’re always in thrift stores, they’re plentiful in antique malls. You can find them for as cheap as under a buck, and you can splurge and spend a Jackson. Or two! I like to keep my brooches under the $15 price point.

I pin them on jean jackets, dresses, cardigans, you name it. I’ve been collecting for as long as I’ve been thrifting. So it’s safe to say, this collection has not seen it’s last brooch, that’s for sure.

My grandma gave me several vintage rhinestone pieces to kick off my addiction– I’ve been trying to think of a clever way to display them when not in use {right now some of them are in a jewelry box & some are set out in a candy dish}~*

Dear Frecklewonder, Jenny.
I have been a reader for years and years and I am a sincere fan of your blog. I absolutely love it and its so inspiring.
Now Im humbly starting my own blog, finally, and I wanted to put links to all my favorite blogs but I can’t find any buttons that I can use for Frecklewonder.
What’s a girl to do?
With hopes of getting a reply. Yayy so excited. I am always too shy to comment.
Anyways,
thanks so much
Dew, Dögg.
P.S. Im Icelandic therefore the weird name but it actually means Dew which is sooo much easier to use. I have an american husband, yes so lucky, so I have spent countless times standing in a middle of a group of people pronouncing my name until I don’t remember how to my own name sounds. Needless to say that I get the Snoop Doggy Dogg joke all the time which is sad cause my name is very beautiful and rare in Icelandic. Ok haha. Hi. sorry. Thanks again.

These are beautiful! I only have a few, mostly from my mom, but I would love to add to my little collection.

Ooh, that black and white apple brooch – I love it!

I love a jacket full of brooches and, in defiance of Ms. Coco Chanel and her “Before you leave the house, look in the mirror and remove one accessory” rule, generally wear ‘em in threes. Because I’m a rebel like that.

Lovely and funny how we have some very similar brooches! I think every jacket hanging in my closet has one attached.

SWOON! I love enamel jewelry. I just recently turned a pair of clip on earrings into hair pins and I love them. I couldn’t wear them the way they were. Those things hurt. Love your collection.

Oh, how lovely! I especially love all the enamel ones, they’re so hard to find in England!

OK, I’m almost embarrassed to admit this, but I always thought they were broaches, not brooches~ Is that possible that they could be called both? Or am I that fashionably ignorant? Do you pronounce it like it rhymes with roach even? (Go ahead and laugh, I know you will…)

Love them! I’ve collected vintage enamel flower brooches for a while, maybe 7 years (it all started with a neon pink, lavender and black one!) and I’m getting married later this year, so I decided to take the majority of them and make my bouquet. I am making it in a way so that if I ever absolutely have to take a single brooch off, I can, but I expect I’ll keep it intact as a bouquet forever. It’ll be mostly flowers, all different colors, with a few other bits and bobs as well. This is part of the collection. I’ve added a couple of yellow flowers since taking this photo since I thought it was lacking in yellow, and I’ll probably remove that gold starburst one and keep it in my jewelry box because it’s a standout for me.

What a lovely collection! I’ve just started wearing brooches and I am hooked! They are such a great way to add an extra touch to an outfit in an interesting way! Thanks for sharing :)
