It Is Winter, Right?

by Jenny on January 27, 2012

These photos are from exactly one year ago today.

We had snow.

Lots and lots and lots of snow.

Today it was in the 60s. This little girl dressed herself, and I’ll tell ya: the scarf was overkill.

I know I’d be complaining if there was a whole mess of snow outside (I’m certain I would be after the first day), but since there isn’t any snow or any chance of snow anytime soon, call me crazy but I’m kinda missing it! Just craving that beautiful white blanket of snow and the quiet it brings, I guess. I wouldn’t mind being snowed in one good time this winter. (Watch, a blizzard will hit next week)

Are you having a wacky warm winter? I looked out my window this afternoon and my neighbor was working in her garden! Have mercy.

(this is a total aside, but it’s a sweet chuckle: after I took the photo on the left of Dotty, she said to me: Did you see my wonderful gums? Seriously. And while I’m sharing DottySpeak, last night as I was tucking her in, she said to me, I love your heart. And then she started to talk about bones. She said, I haffa reedy big bone in my head, it’s round. And I said, yes, It’s called your skull. And she said to me, I love your bones, Mama.)

We’ve had a nearly snow-free winter — no real fat flakes til after Christmas. NOW we’re all ice and rain?? Yikes.

You have the cutest kids ever! Down here in Tampa, Florida it’s been in the 80s (seriously…), today I was thrilled to find that it’s relatively chilly – a frigid high of 72!

Oh that dotty speak is so cute! Love her style.

It is unseasonably warm here as well. Last year we had TONS of snow. This year it’s snowed a couple of times, turned to rain, and we’ve had a few days this month where it’s nice enough to walk outside with a coat (think 50s when it should be in the 30s.) Strange strange winter.

Where IS the snow?!? Does anyone have snow? Here in New Hampshire it is pouring rain today … the 1/2 inch of snow we had is melting away. I feel bad complaining … but some snow for our winter would be nice!!

Look at all of that beautiful snow! I know whatcha mean. I grew up in Washington and used to lovely winters. The last several years I’ve lived in San Diego, Florida, and now Hawaii. I love sunny weather but really super extra miss the snow and hot chocolate and fireplaces every winter. I do not miss scraping off my car though. And, we’d been eating fresh tomatoes out of our garden since Christmas, so that;s pretty awesome. =)

I have never seen snow like that, wow! I wish!
I live in Florida and it has been strangely warm, I can’t remember the last time January was warm enough for bikinis at the beach, but this year…!

Oh, she is TOO. MUCH. Her little words bring a tear to my eye. So cute. My 3 tr. old is starting to say some pretty cute stuff that’s killin me as well… “Mama, are you my friend?”, etc…. just brings the biggest smile to a mama’s face doesn’t it? Re: this winter- its in the 60′s and 70′s lately here in Austin, but that’s pretty typical!
