snow day

it was zero degrees outside when we woke up this morning. ZERO! that just seems wrong. it’s warmed up a bit, and the sun is out, making the view from the comfort and warmth of dotty’s room quite nice. hey, as long as we don’t have to be outside, i’m ok.

the kids built a fort and played while listening to here comes science by they might be giants. all in all, a pretty good morning here.

:::

i am editing a *ton* of photos today/tonight- super excited about lots of colorful, cute vintage pieces- specifically some very cute 1950s cotton shirts- you know the ones. i am going to take this time while dotty naps to package all the orders that came in over the weekend- can you believe that we actually didn’t have mail service on saturday?! it was canceled due to the road conditions + massive amounts of snow everywhere, crazy! i thought the USPS had some sort of slogan about rain, sleet, hail and somethingorother, but i don’t think that’s their official slogan after all.

anyhow. preview pics to come shortly. hope ya’ll are enjoying a nice monday.

xo

that sounds like a nice cosy morning.
we never have mail on saturdays, only monday to friday round these parts because we are about 50 years behind the rest of the world!
ps i love love love that stripey knitted/crocheted blanket! did you make it?

      hi miss erin!

i wish i could say that i made that blanket (is this the one you mean? http://www.flickr.com/photos/justjenny/3046968748/in/set-72157605833098780/

but it was just a super lucky score- i got it a few years ago and it’s probably the best granny knit blanket i’ve ever seen, and usually there are quite a few to see in the thrifts!

our post is talking about going m-f… they already closed our post office on saturdays, i think they made that change sometime last year. but to not have delivery was like, WHAT?! the roads were just awful, and now? the plows have made this wall of snow on the sides of the streets, thus *burying* the mailboxes, and we are supposed to make them available to the mail carriers (who deliver drive by style, from the truck) so it looks like there is even more shoveling in my near future. AGH!

hmm that link wouldn’t work for me, but you can see the blanket i was talking about in this one http://www.flickr.com/photos/justjenny/4307699875/
        it’s so lovely!

so do they just throw your mail out the truck window? that is so weird.
be careful of your poor back shoveling the snow!

Hey Jenny! A little off-topic, but since I’m expecting a baby next month and I have a crib similar to Dorothy’s, I was wondering how you kept/keep the kitty out of the crib, especially when Dotty was brand new? I love your blog and your aesthetic sense. Thanks!

      hi, amelia!

you know- i was kind of hard core about keeping the cats out of dotty’s room from the day we got home with her from the hospital… over the top, perhaps. but they were pretty well trained to just stay out of there… and really, i don’t think they’d be able to leap that high to get into her crib anyway… once she was a little older, 6 months or so, i brought the cats in, and would occasionally put one of them in the crib with her which was such a treat for all.

it was a good way to introduce them, i think. and now, they are super tolerant of her occasional rough love (tugging on tails and stuff)

thanks for the kind words on the blog!
best of luck with your last couple weeks and with the delivery too!!
      xo

Seattle was definitely looking forward to getting some snow this year, so I’m a bit jealous!

A couple years ago I picked a cute pair of pink & yellow floral pillowcases at my neighborhood thrift shop … they match the sheet in your pic! What a coincidence! Just had to share. Happy snow day!
